Principal's Message
Greetings, SVAH Families,
My name is Yesenia Arroyo, and I am the proud principal of RFK School for Visual Arts and Humanities. I want you to know that serving at SVAH is an honor I don’t take lightly. I come to SVAH with 27 years of experience in the Los Angeles School District. Before serving as principal, I have served in different capacities, including elementary, secondary, and adult education teacher, Title I and TSP Coordinator, Instructional Coach, Summer School Principal, and Assistant Principal.
Reflecting on my life journey, I can honestly say that everything I have accomplished and the challenges I have overcome is because of my family and the village that has supported me. They gave me a foundation filled with values of integrity, compassion, humility, perseverance, faith, and love for the community. Values I embrace and use as my moral life compass. A compass that helps to direct me when I feel lost, challenged, confused, or when I need to make essential choices. Thanks to their wisdom and the life experiences I have gained along the way –the good ones and the challenging ones –I have a compass that has become my guiding light helping me to make decisions and hopefully wise choices. You know, something like your “Angelito de la Guarda.” I am today who I am and strive to be every day, thanks to the shared wisdom that my village has provided me.
As a result, from a young age, my journey toward becoming a civically minded person began with the experiences I witnessed at home and in my surrounding community. From a very young age, I grew a strong passion and desire to give back to my community and empower others to reach their full potential. At first, I didn’t know what that would look like, but I knew I had passion in me. Eventually, this helped to guide me to a career in education. I feel blessed to have a job that combines my love for education while serving great communities. It is an enriching experience that I never take for granted. As an ELL student, I firmly believe in our students' potential and our great responsibility as educators to provide the opportunities they need to succeed.
I am honored to lead The School for Visual Arts and Humanities. In this outstanding school community, we strive to support students in leaving high school well-prepared to succeed in a higher education program and confront all challenges with the creative and sensitive spirit needed to make a lasting difference in their lives and the globalized world. I look forward to supporting students in reaching their creative and academic potential through a rigorous and relevant college-preparatory education anchored in the Arts.
I am deeply committed to improving the lives of our students and continuously strive to lead by example. I look forward to continuing to build a strong bond with students, parents, teachers, and support staff and therefore continue to inspire a shared commitment to quality education. Parents and families play a pivotal role in our student's educational trajectories. We need you as partners in the educational advancement of our students. After all, as parents, you are their first teachers.
I look forward to meeting you, seeing you participate in the various school events, and becoming partners in supporting your child’s success. Thank you in advance for your collaboration, dedication, and commitment to your child’s well-being and academic success! Remember that the best way to predict our future is to create it. Every day we get to decide. Let’s have a great school year!!
With great respect and admiration,
Ms. Arroyo,
SVAH School Principal
